IAT EXA

EXA is a coined word derived from the French word “exact.” The study of “ED Surface”, a surface feature which is the most distinctive characteristic of the IAT EXA, started in 1984 at the Division of Biomaterials and Engineering, Department of Conservative Dentistry, Showa University School of Dentistry. After more than twenty years of basic research, clinical trials and product development processes since then, the IAT EXA implant system finally was born. The IAT EXA implant system is fully made in Japan down to the smallest parts, ensuring high quality and maximum cost effectiveness and offering excellent osteogenesis, strong initial stability, and great operability during the implant procedure. We are confident that this implant system will become an effective option for implant treatment in Japan.

ED Surface

ED Surface is a surface property of a fixture created together with the fixture shape, through electric discharge machining with pure titanium wire electrodes. Micropits with Ra surface roughness values of 1.5 to 2µm are created by electric spark discharge. In these micropits, proteins and cells readily accumulate, which is beneficial for cell growth, proliferation, and differentiation. Also, titanium surfaces are generally covered by titanium oxide, but ED Surfaces have a titanium oxide layer of approximately 1µm which is thick compared to mechanically machined surfaces which have a thickness of only 5 to 10nm. Furthermore, the composition gradually changes from the outer surface to the interior, from titanium dioxide (TiO2) to titanium oxide (TiO) and then to elemental titanium (Ti), a structure of titanium oxides well integrated with the elemental titanium. This thick and strong titanium oxide layer has shown excellent corrosion resistance and its surface has great wettability with body fluids and blood, promoting biological reactions that greatly aid osteogenesis.

The IAT EXA implant system provides exceptional initial stability because the screw groove is formed up to the upper rim of the implant fixture and because the groove of the screw becomes shallower and narrower as it rises to the upper rim.

The IAT EXA implant system provides superior operability because its fixture has a twin hex tapered structure.
Further, with this structure, the fit and rigidity of the connection between the abutment and the fixture can be improved greatly.

Simple systematization of the product line is one of main characteristics of the IAT EXA implant system. This improves on-site usability and reliability for implant surgical operations. It also successfully achieved high cost performance by narrowing down products required for each symptom.

Surgical System

The drill system which was very highly evaluated in long-term clinical testing offers excellent cutting performance and durability, shortening the length of surgery and minimizing the burden on patients. Moreover, the surgical tools are color-coded according to the diameter of fixtures to improve operability and safety.
